CBS News Sacramento reports that a Yuba City woman is facing charges of gross vehicular manslaughter after she crashed head-on into another vehicle, killing a passenger inside.
The California Highway Patrol said in a statement that on Saturday, January 27, Adrienne Maloney, 38, of Yuba City was driving her white Honda Accord northbound on George Washington Boulevard just south of Lincoln Road.
Investigators say that Maloney’s vehicle crossed directly in front of a blue Mazda 3. Both vehicles collided head-on.
A passenger in the Mazda, an unidentified 54-year-old Roseville woman, was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, despite all life-saving efforts made by paramedics and doctors, the woman died shortly after she arrived at the hospital.
The unidentified driver of the Mazda was also transported to the hospital. The extent of their injuries and their current condition were not available at the time of the report.
California Highway Patrol officers responding to the scene report that Maloney displayed signs of intoxication by alcohol and/or drugs. After a series of field sobriety tests, Maloney was arrested on the charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury.
The crash is still currently under investigation by the Yuba City Police Department and the California Highway Patrol.
